Hyperlinked Gmail email signatures (say that 5 times fast!) are a great way to encourage clients to interact with your business in different ways. You never know which reply to which email might trigger a click-through to your business and start the ball rolling to a sale.

Hyperlinked Gmail Email Signatures in 3 Easy Steps

Historically, hyperlinked gmail email signatures have been the bane of the small business world. Gmail isn’t HTML friendly and what you would expect to be intuitive actually involves a few extra steps that aren’t particularly easy to find. The good news is that hyperlinked Gmail email signatures aren’t difficult at all…once you know what you’re doing. In just 3 easy steps, you can create hyperlinked Gmail email signatures (seriously, tongue-tied from saying that too frequently!) that can up your professional presentation and give the people you communicate with a boost directly into your business.

STEP 1 – Upload your signature image files

There are any number of ways to accomplish this, but we do it via our blog. We upload all of the image files for our email signature to our Media Library. The purpose is to get the image files in some sort of program where you have access to the image URL. This is what Gmail wants.

STEP 2 – Add your image files to Gmail’s signature box.

Copy the URL of your image and head over to the Settings in your Gmail inbox. About 1/2 down on the General tab is the Signature box. Click the add image icon and it will ask you for the URL. Paste your URL (it will give you a nice little preview too!) and then upload it to the signature. Do this for every image file you want to include (i.e. separate icons for social media platforms).

STEP 3 – Highlight the image in the signature box to apply a hyperlink to the image.

This is the special secret! Most people can get steps 1 and 2 accomplished by trial and error, but this next part stops a lot of people in their tracks. Most people will click on an image to select it and then click the link button. They try to enter the URL to the destination and find it just populates an annoying text link. What? Why!? In order to add hyperlinks to the images, you have to highlight the image and then click the link button. Don’t click on it. Hold your mouse button down and drag over it to highlight it and then when you click the link button, it will work.

Voila! You just created hyperlinked Gmail email signatures in 3 easy steps! Repeat the process across each of your brands if you have multiple ones and soon people will be commenting on how sharp your signature looks or saying “Hey, I got your email. I saw your signature. I didn’t know you offered [insert service or product]. Can I hear more about it?”
